HW: Running Project

Hi guys,

Your HW for tonight is to fill out the table on the first page of the Running Project WKS. Get your data from the pictures that we took on Tuesday. Start the time at t=1/3 second. Every frame the time goes up 1/3 of a second. Estimate the position of the runner in meters by using the cones. Email me if you have any questions. We will be using Mathematica on Thursday and Friday to analyze this data so please make sure that its on your computer!

Thanks!

HW 69

Hi guys,

Sorry I'm so late getting this to you, I had to find a good substitute for the worksheet. After looking for awhile online, I found this website that reviews many of the log properties that we talked about today.

HW 69

Go to this website:

http://www.themathpage.com/aPreCalc/logarithms.htm

Scroll down past the examples (or read them if you need a refresher) and do the following problems on a sheet of paper:

#1-4 a-d, 5, 6a-d, 10, 11, 12 a-c

And yes, if you scroll over the pink rectangle the answer will pop up, but you're only hurting yourself if you don't learn these properties!

HW

Hi guys,

Today's was introducing us to the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus, the most important topic that we will cover this year. It connects the two major concepts of calculus, the derivative (slope) and the definite integral (area). 4.4 WKS A and B were meant to walk you through an understanding of this crucial but somewhat complex theorem. I think that it is so important, I want you to go back through these two worksheets this weekend and make an honest effort effort to really understand them. To help you out, I've posted solutions for them on the website, along with the original worksheets(in the Worksheets section). Also, watch the above video for a different person explaining the same idea (though he uses g(x) instead of F(x) as the antiderivative). This will be your only HW this weekend, and though its nothing that I can check to see if you've done, it will make things a lot easier for you if you gain a real understanding of it now, as the rest of the year is going to be based on this idea.

HW
Review and correct/complete the 4.4 WKS A and 4.4 WKS B
(I will take them up on Monday)

Thanks!

Thursday, March 4, 2010

HW 62

Hi guys,

HW for is the 4.4b WKS tonight. You'll need to refer to the 4.4 WKS that we did in class. Also, finish that one if you didn't in class.

4.1-4.3 Review

Hi guys,

The solutions to the review are now posted on the website.

http://ehsfaculty.org/math/njoseph/Calculus.html

There are a few minor changes that I needed to make to the review:

#5 Change f(x) to f(x)=(2x^5-3x^3+12)/(x^3)

#4a Draw inscribed AND circumscribed rectangles.

#4k UPPER sum, not lower sum

Pg. 5, #4a and b, the graphs got put on the next page for some reason, but the integrals refer to those graphs.

I’ve incorporated these changes into the solutions, so just look at those if any of this is unclear.

Thanks and good luck!

HW 61

Hi guys,

Your HW tonight is to do the above 4 problems. Draw a picture for each and find the value of the definite integral. For #'s 1-3, you can use geometric formulas, but for #4, you'll have to do with limits and a Reimann sum (See blue reference sheet that I handed out in class).

Problems #1-4 above

HW 60

Hi guys,

Your HW for tonight is just one problem, to find the definite integral shown above. Remember from the notes that this means to find the exact area underneath the curve of the function f(x)=5-x^2 from x=0 to x=2. You can use inscribed or circumscribed rectangles, though I would recommend the inscribed so that you can use i rather than (i-1). See video if you need some help! Thanks and good luck!

HW 57

Hi guys,

I think it'd be best to wait on the 4.2b WKS until we've done a few more
examples, so this weekend I actually want you to do the 4.2a WKS (emailed to you),
which will be more practice summation problems. If you've already started
the other one, don't fret, because that will be assigned for HW on Monday
and you'll be ahead.

HW 54

Hi guys,

What would a long weekend be without some calculus? Your HW is to print out (if you don't have a printer at home just write it on paper) and complete the 4.2 Area of a Circle WKS that I emailed you. It follows up on the area of a circle lecture I gave on Friday. It involves Mathematica, but don't freak out, I've written down exactly what you need to type in, so that shouldn't be a problem. Let me know if you have any questions!

3.5-3.7 Test Review

Hi guys,

Thanks for doing a great job today when we had a visitor in the room. I really appreciate it. Your only HW for tonight will be to work on the 3.5-3.7 Test Review for our Test on Thursday, Feb. 4th.

Also, please remember to have a working version of Mathematica on your computers for the lesson tomorrow.

Thanks!

HW 50

Hi guys,

Please read the following for some important announcements:

1) Please watch the video tutorial above for instructions on downloading the EMP NS Connection program from the server. (Sorry about the giant ScreenFlow watermark, I'm using the free version). Have this on you computer by next Tuesday, Feb. 2nd. Let me know if you need help.

2) Please make sure that you have a working version of Mathematica on your computer by Tuesday, Feb. 2nd. Those without it them will lose participation points that day. If yours was erased or you are new to the class, please come by either today, Friday or Monday after school so I can help you put it on your computer.

3) We will be having a test over Section 3.6 and 3.7 next Thursday, Nov. 4th.

And now the HW:

HW 50
